Just a few months shy of his second birthday, Tyler was diagnosed with Retinoblastoma. It was during a routine checkup with his pediatrician when he was referred to a specialist. He was diagnosed four days later. “It was extremely difficult for our family,” Tyler’s mom, Yasmine said. Tyler has endured many surgeries, including the removal of his left eye. Throughout all of his treatments however, he always had a smile on his face, and showed tremendous strength. When Tyler received news that he was granted his wish, he was ecstatic. Tyler’s wish is to visit Disneyland to meet all of his favourite characters. “Tyler had his Disney cars every time he went into surgery. It made him really happy and took him away from what he was going through,” Yasmine said. Tyler is counting down the days until he gets to meet all of his heroes.

Curtis's Wish

Cutris Skis

“When life gets you down sometimes the one thing that can get you back on your feet is having a dream, a wish,” Curtis said after his wish was granted. Curtis was diagnosed with a very rare form of Lymphoma. When he was deciding on his wish, he narrowed down his options and finally settled on a trip to Austria to ski with his family. After his trip, Curtis wrote The Children’s Wish Foundation of Canada a thank-you note. Here’s what he said: “It has been an experience unlike any other in my lifetime and it will remain one of my most fond memories that I will have forever. There are truly no words that can express how thankful I am for this unbelievable act of generosity by your foundation along with the many people who donated.” It is because of donors like you, who supported Children’s Wish and Wish-a-thon last year that Curtis was able to have his wish come true!

Violet's Wish

Tylers toys

A month before Violet’s third birthday, she was diagnosed with a rare genetic disorder called MPS VI which affects her entire body. Her disease has had many ups and downs, and it took 18 months to confirm her diagnosis. To receive her treatments she has to take eight-hour trips, and has had 40 hospital visits in the last two years. When Violet found out she was receiving a wish, her father Larry said they felt “a feeling of relief and joy, knowing we all had as a family some great news to share and look forward to a fun enjoyable time together away from the hospital setting, and just enjoying watching Violet and her brother share this together.” Violet had her wish picked right away and understood that it is going to be a great reward for all the various doctor’s visits, surgeries, and weekly infusions. She gets excited right away and loves to talk about how she is going to see the princesses from Frozen and Brave.

Charles-Olivier's Wish

Charles

When he was one year old, a lump appeared on his spine. Charles-Olivier received a diagnosis 30 months later; when he was three years old. There was a relief to finally know that after all of that waiting, his family finally had a diagnosis, and that it was treatable. He was diagnosed with Mucopolysaccharidosis and the treatments would be able to slow down his illness. Charles-Olivier is so full of life, and he fought through every step of the way. When he found out he was granted a wish, to go to Walt Disney World, his family had mixed feelings. They were happy that he would have such a wonderful opportunity, but that meant admitting that Charles-Olivier was sick. “It’s not always easy to be different from others, but with Children’s Wish, his difference is positive for him. It’s about realizing his dream,” his mom said.

Phillippe's Wish

Philippe

Phillippe had noticed a small lump on his body, but wasn’t concerned. He continued to play soccer, and teach swimming lessons. A month later he noticed the lump grew in size. When he began to feel numbness in his leg, he decided to go for tests. Phillippe was diagnosed with cancer. To receive treatments, Phillippe would have to leave home for several days a time. “I was missing my family, and they were missing me. We’re a very close family,” he said. Avoiding an operation to remove the tumour, he continued with chemotherapy, knowing that at the end of it, his wish would be granted. Phillippe’s wish is to go snowboarding with his family! “To know that I would be going to Whistler helped me remain positive, even during the most difficult moments,” he said. Phillippe says that his wish gives him the inspiration he needs to keep smiling, and continue to set goals for himself.
